Cookie & Browser Storage Policy

Storage & Analytics Summary: How Yarnivo Manages Data

  • Functional Local Storage: We use your browser's built-in localStorage API strictly for functional purposes: to remember your personal crochet projects, save row counter progress, and store your cookie consent preferences.
  • Basic Consent Mode Analytics: Google Analytics (G-5SMWR7WJ4C) is blocked by default and loads only if you explicitly choose "Accept All" or enable Analytics in preferences. Analytics cookies are never set without your consent.
  • AdSense Verification (No Ads Displayed): We include the Google AdSense verification script in the HTML <head> of public pages solely for publisher domain verification. No ad units, banners, or advertising cookies are active on Yarnivo.
  • Project Data Remains on Your Device: Your project dossiers, notes, gauge measurements, and row counts reside strictly within your device's browser sandbox and are never sent to Google Analytics or external servers.
  • Complete Consent & Deletion Control: You can change your analytics preferences at any time using the link in the site footer, or wipe all local storage data using the reset tool below.

1. Cookies vs. Local Storage: What Is the Difference?

Many websites use traditional HTTP cookies to track users across the web. To understand why Yarnivo’s architecture is fundamentally different and more privacy-protective, consider the technical distinction between these storage technologies:

Traditional HTTP Cookies

Small text files (up to 4KB) stored by your browser. On Yarnivo, first-party analytics cookies (such as _ga) are strictly blocked by default and are only set if you affirmatively grant consent. We do not use third-party behavioral advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

Optional analytics cookies load only upon your explicit consent.

HTML5 Local Storage (Web Storage)

A private client-side key-value storage sandbox provided by your browser (holding up to 5MB). Local storage data is never transmitted in HTTP request headers. It remains 100% on your device so your browser can remember your craft notes between visits.

This is what Yarnivo uses exclusively for functional features.

2. Exactly What Storage Mechanisms Yarnivo Uses

Yarnivo utilizes functional keys in your browser’s localStorage, optional first-party analytics cookies when consented, temporary in-memory session state, and a public AdSense verification script:

Storage Mechanism & KeyData StoredWhy We Store ItLifespan & Expiration
localStorage
yarnivo_projects_v1
A structured JSON array containing your project dossiers: project titles, types (blanket, garment, scarf, etc.), status, hook size in mm, yarn brand names, dye lot codes, target dimensions, unit preferences (cm/in), tension gauge measurements, custom notes, and attached calculation snapshots.Powers the My Projects Workspace so you can maintain a private digital craft binder offline without needing an account.Persistent on your device until manually deleted or cleared.
localStorage
yarnivo_quick_counter_v1
A JSON object recording the standalone row counter state: current completed row number, target row goal, pattern repeat cycle length, current cycle number, and an array of previous states supporting multi-step undo.Powers the Interactive Row Counter so that refreshing the page, losing internet connectivity, or closing your browser tab does not cause you to lose your place in your pattern.Persistent on your device until reset or deleted.
localStorage
yarnivo_cookie_consent_v1
A JSON record containing your privacy choice (analytics true/false), timestamp, and consent policy schema version.Remembers your cookie and analytics preference across visits so the consent banner is not repeatedly shown once you make a choice.Persistent on your device until cleared or updated via preferences.
First-Party Cookies
_ga, _ga_5SMWR7WJ4C
Google Analytics pseudonymous identifier. Distinguishes unique browser instances to measure aggregated page views, session counts, and referral sources.Provides anonymous site traffic analytics to guide content and calculator improvements. Blocked by default under Basic Consent Mode; set only upon explicit user consent._ga: 2 years; _ga_*: 2 years. Purged upon consent rejection.
HTML <head> Script
ca-pub-6739409593766826
Google AdSense asynchronous site verification tag. No ad placement cookies or marketing profiling cookies are set.Enables Google AdSense crawler to verify domain ownership. No display ads or banner units are placed on calculators, workspaces, or error pages.HTTP script cache (managed by browser).
Session Memory
Volatile React State
Temporary values entered into active calculator input fields (e.g. swatch width, stitch counts).Enables live calculation feedback as you type numbers into calculator forms.Discarded immediately when the browser tab is closed.

3. How Long Does Data Remain on Your Device?

Unlike HTTP cookies that specify an automatic server-side expiry timestamp (e.g. 14 days or 1 year), HTML5 localStorage is designed by web standards to remain saved on your client device indefinitely until:

  • You delete an individual project dossier inside My Projects.
  • You click the "Reset to 0" button inside the Row Counter.
  • You click the "Clear All Local Data on This Device" button provided in Section 5 below.
  • You clear browsing history, cookies, or site data in your web browser settings.
  • Your browser closes a private browsing or incognito session (browsers automatically purge local storage when an incognito window is closed).

4. What Features Stop Remembering Information After Deletion

If you clear Yarnivo’s local storage, the website will continue to function normally, but the following features will return to their pristine initial states:

  • My Projects Workspace: All saved craft dossiers will be wiped, and the workspace will display the initial empty state.
  • Interactive Row Counter: The counter will reset to Row 0, target milestones will be cleared, and all undo history will be erased.
  • Calculator Snapshots: Calculations previously attached to projects will be removed. All calculator forms will display their default demonstration figures.
Recommended Best Practice: Before clearing your browser data or switching devices, navigate to My Projects and click "Export All Backup". This saves an open, readable JSON file to your device’s downloads folder that you can restore at any time.

5. Self-Service Data Deletion: One-Click Reset Tool

You do not need to hunt through complex browser settings menus to wipe Yarnivo data. You can delete all local storage records for Yarnivo in this browser immediately using the button below:

Clear All Yarnivo Data on This Device

Clicking this button permanently removes yarnivo_projects_v1 and yarnivo_quick_counter_v1 from this browser's local storage sandbox.

6. Manual Browser Deletion Instructions

If you prefer to manage local storage using your browser’s native developer or privacy preferences, follow these instructions:

  • Google Chrome: Navigate to Settings > Privacy and Security > Third-party cookies > See all site data and permissions. Search for yarnivo.com and click the trash can icon.
  • Apple Safari (macOS & iOS): In macOS, open Safari > Settings > Privacy > Manage Website Data, search for yarnivo.com, and click Remove. In iOS, open Settings > Safari > Advanced > Website Data and swipe to delete.
  • Mozilla Firefox: Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Cookies and Site Data > Manage Data. Search for yarnivo.com and select Remove Selected.
  • Microsoft Edge: Go to Settings > Cookies and site permissions > Manage and delete cookies and site data > See all cookies and site data. Search for yarnivo.com and click Delete.
Clearing Site Data vs. Browsing History: In most web browsers, clearing "Browsing History" (the log of visited URLs) does not remove localStorage records. To erase saved projects and counter state from your browser controls, ensure you select "Cookies and site data" or "Website data" for yarnivo.com, or use the one-click reset tool above.

7. Consent Controls, Google Analytics, and AdSense Verification

Yarnivo provides transparent consent controls for optional analytics and maintains clear boundaries regarding advertising technology:

A. Consent Banner & Preferences Modal

On your initial visit, Yarnivo displays a consent notice allowing you to:

  • Accept All: Enables Google Analytics (G-5SMWR7WJ4C) to collect aggregated, anonymous traffic metrics.
  • Reject Optional: Blocks Google Analytics completely. No analytics script is loaded, and no analytics cookies are created.
  • Customize (Preferences Modal): Review category-by-category details, see that essential local storage is always active for your craft projects, and selectively toggle analytics.
  • Change Preferences Anytime: You can open the preferences modal at any time by clicking the link located in the site footer.

B. Google Analytics Implementation (Basic Consent Mode)

Yarnivo utilizes Google tag (gtag.js) configured under Basic Consent Mode:

  • Consent defaults (analytics_storage: 'denied', ad_storage: 'denied', ad_user_data: 'denied', ad_personalization: 'denied') are set before any configuration or measurement commands execute.
  • The Google Analytics tag is only fetched and initialized after you explicitly grant consent. If you choose "Reject Optional", the tag is never loaded and no network telemetry is sent.
  • If you previously consented and subsequently withdraw consent or click "Reject Optional", Yarnivo immediately updates consent status to denied and purges all first-party Google Analytics cookies (_ga, _ga_*) from your browser.
  • Strict Data Boundaries: Analytics measurement is strictly limited to anonymous page paths, referring domains, and general device characteristics. Project dossier titles, custom notes, stitch calculations, yarn stash details, and contact form contents are never transmitted to Google Analytics.

C. Google AdSense Site Verification (ca-pub-6739409593766826)

To verify site ownership with Google AdSense, our shared HTML <head> on public content pages includes the AdSense verification snippet:

<script async src="https://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-6739409593766826" crossorigin="anonymous"></script>
  • Verification vs. Active Ads: This script serves solely to verify publisher domain ownership during Google's review process. Yarnivo does not display commercial banner ads, video ads, or interstitial units on the site.
  • No Ads in Core Craft Tools: We do not place ad units or commercial promotions inside calculators, project workspaces, loading states, or error pages.

D. Google-Certified CMP Setup Required Before Serving Ads

In compliance with Google’s EU User Consent Policy and regional privacy frameworks (including the EU GDPR, UK GDPR, and Swiss FADP), Google requires website publishers to use a Google-certified Consent Management Platform (CMP) integrated with the IAB Europe Transparency and Consent Framework (TCF v2.2) before serving ads to visitors in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or Switzerland.

Because Yarnivo currently only includes the domain verification snippet and does not serve active advertisements, this Google-certified CMP setup will be configured and deployed prior to any future commercial ad rendering.
